DANNYLUX JOINS LATIN GRAMMY IN THE SCHOOLS™ PROGRAM BENEFITING SUSSMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL IN LOS ANGELES
The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation®, in partnership with Latin GRAMMY®-nominated artist DannyLux, hosted Latin GRAMMY In The Schools™, an educational experience that included a donation of musical instruments to Sussman Middle School in the Downey Unified School District of Los Angeles . The program, presented by Dr. Simi Foundation and in partnership with Save The Music Foundation, featured a Q&A session with the artist moderated by music marketing and partnerships professional at TikTok's SoundOn, Kat De Jesus. DannyLux also performed “Corazó n Frío” and “Jugaste y Sufrí,” and the Sussman Middle School band played throughout the event.
The donated instruments will be used during band instruction, rehearsals and performances, expanding participation while reducing financial barriers for families. The school was selected because of its established band program, dedicated music educator, and students’ commitment to music. The donation will provide an immediate benefit to current students while strengthening Downey Unified’s long-term music education pathway.
“In Downey Unified, music education begins with creative exploration in our earliest grades and grows into increasingly advanced opportunities throughout middle and high school,” said José Rodríguez, Downey Unified’s School Board President. “We are deeply grateful to Dr. Simi Foundation, Save The Music Foundation, and the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation for helping us strengthen that pathway at Sussman Middle School. These instruments will expand access, remove barriers, and give more students the opportunity to develop their talents and experience the lasting impact of music education.”
“Music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, so being able to share that with these students is really special to me,” said DannyLux. “I hope they leave today feeling inspired to keep creating, keep learning, and most importantly, to believe in where their love for music can take them.”
“We are grateful to DannyLux for sharing his craft and expertise, as well as to our partners, Dr. Simi Foundation and Save The Music Foundation, whose collective support advances our shared mission of nurturing future Latin music creators,” said Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza , Executive Director of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. “We hope this experience lives on among the students of Sussman Middle School and the Downey Unified School District, furthering the legacy of Latin music.”
Latin GRAMMY In The Schools is an educational program that inspires students ages 5 to 18 through music education and mentorship. The Foundation invites renowned musicians, performing artists, and sound engineers to share their personal stories and experiences with students, highlighting the effort it takes to overcome career obstacles. The goal is for students to learn to optimize the educational opportunities presented to them, giving them an advantage and strong academic preparation to be able to compete in the music industry.
